    20.11.2009 - GEDORE - 90th anniversary

    This year is the 90th anniversary of the start-up of GEDORE Werkzeugfabrik Otto Dowidat KG – the company which has grown into the current GEDORE Tool Group. Now in third-generation family ownership, the Group employs 3,000 people worldwide and is led from its headquarters in Remscheid by Karen Dowidat. Ably assisted by a management board of three directors, she successfully continues the life’s work of the entrepreneurial family.

    Backing a solid tradition

    From its humble origins, manufacturing spanners in Remscheid, the company gradually expanded by acquiring a large number of subsidiaries – each a specialist in its own area – into a Group with a wide product portfolio. The GEDORE Group, represented by GEDORE Tool Center KG, has become an important business partner in the tool industry. Keeping and expanding production in Germany as the main location of the GEDORE Group has always been and continues to be a core part of the Group’s corporate philosophy. 90 % of the product range of the Group is currently made in Germany. This is possible only with a qualified, skilled workforce – a key reason why the Bergisch Land region of Germany was chosen as the location for the original company. After 90 years of successful production in Germany, the Group continues to invest intensively in the Remscheid location to meet the requirements of a growing market. More than 10,000 products are manufactured from high-grade raw materials in the various GEDORE Group plants. All the work this entails – from the blank to the finished product – is carried out in-house.

    Managing change

    Countries are converging, borders are disappearing – and the same applies in the GEDORE Group. With production and sales facilities in more than 70 countries, the Group has a worldwide presence. To maintain and expand this global activity, loyal, reliable employees are required with absolute customer orientation and commitment – a significant strength of the GEDORE Group. From the very early stages of the Group, a high value has been placed on thorough training. In keeping with this approach, GEDORE provides training every year in various commercial and industrial trades to meet the requirement for new employees and maintain the skills and knowledge in the company. The challenges facing the company have always been met with commitment, confidence and openness to dialogue. That will not change in the future.

    Future prospects

    Throughout the entire GEDORE Group, quality tools are manufactured for professional use in industry and the crafts. GEDORE products are subject to continuous improvement to keep up with advancing engineering standards and the requirements of the end user. In-house tool construction and design enables custom solutions to be developed in response to individual customer requirements. Backed by production-related trading and a reliable advisory service for specialist wholesalers, customers around the world can continue to rely on satisfaction from GEDORE products.
