ABS Acrylic-Butadiene-Styrene, oil and impact-resistant, versatile plastic. Often veneers are laminated with an edging strip of ABS for optical reasons
Accreditation Formal recognition of the competence of a calibration laboratory to carry out specific calibrations
Accuracy Accuracy or better – measuring acuracy – of the torque tools refers to the deviation between the set value and the actual value (value actually achieved) within an established tolerance whose range is established by DIN EN ISO 6789.
Adjustment An activity, which sets the measuring equipment into a ready-to-operate condition, in which all falsifying measuring uncertainties are reduced by changing the measuring device until the predefined error limits (e.g. DIN-ISO standards) can again be maintained.
AF American unit of measurement (inch) 1 AF = 25.4 mm,
conversion to Whitworth and MM see catalogue
Air Type of material for tyres, oil and acid-resistant material cannot be attacked by oil or acids
Air-hardening steel Material no. 1.1328 (45CrMo47) is a pure air hardening steel, which hardens of its own accord at a hardening temperature of about 850°C in still air. This material features very high stability and enormous strength and is particularly suitable for the manufacture of impact tools.
Analog Non-electronic – direct display, on a scale
Angle of twist The further tightening of an already-tightened screw to a specific tightening torque (joining torque) to achieve a given pretension (in the range of the limit of elasticity).
AWUR Abbreviation for anti-wind-up-ratchet
